Saturday Morning Children's Sewing Club - Kimono - £12.50 Sat, 29/04/2017 - 10:00 to 11:30

In today's session each child will make this lovely lightweight garment, ideal to wear over a vest top during the summer months. They will learn how to hem sleeves, add trims and finish edges to a professional standard. One size pattern is suitable for girls age 7-12 years old.

Suitable for children age 7+ with some sewing machine experience.

All materials, a drink and snack are included.

As usual each activity runs for two consecutive weeks making it a fortnightly club if your child would like to come regularly.

 

Saturday Morning Children's Sewing Club - Tunic Dress - £12.50 Sat, 27/05/2017 - 10:00 to 11:30

Using a commercial dressmaking pattern suitable for girls age 7 -12 years old each child will make a tunic dress using two co-ordinating fabrics. They will learn how to finish necklines and armholes to a professional standard and create a hem.

Suitable for children age 7+ with some sewing machine experience.

All materials, a drink and snack are included.

Roman Blind - £60 Tue, 09/05/2017 - 10:30 to 15:30

Learn how to make  a Roman Blind that can instantly change the look and feel of any room in your home.

In this workshop you will make a sample 60cm Roman Blind using all the techniques required to get a professional finish. You will be provided with a basic blind kit and instructions on how to construct your blind before going home with your sample blind to use as a reference.

A 60cm blind kit, tea, coffee and cake. Please bring your lunch or you can buy a sandwich or panini from our cafe menu.

You will need to bring:

1m of furnishing fabric

1m of calico or curtain lining

Machine thread to match your fabric.

Please note sewing machine experience is needed for this workshop. 

Patchwork Quilt - (3 sessions) - £60 Wed, 28/06/2017 - 10:30 to 13:30

Create your own mini quilt using patchwork techniques.

Week 1 – you will be shown how to;

-           Cut fabric using a rotary cutter, ruler and mat

-          Sew a straight seam

-          Press a seam

-          Match seams

-          Create your design using squares

Week 2 – Once you have finalised your design you will spend this session adding a boarder and quilting on top of your patchwork. 

Week 3 – In this session you will sew your front, back and wadding panels together, before adding a bias binding edge to finish your quilt.

This is a great workshop for beginners or for people who want to improve their skills. The finished quilt is ideal for a new arrival, lap quilt or children’s play mat.

You will need to bring a 5 fat quarters in your chosen colours and patterns to the first session. You will need a backing fabric, wadding and bias binding for sessions 2 and 3. The measurements you will need can be discussed in session 1.

Tea, coffee and cake are included.

Sessions on Wednesday 28th June, 5th and 12th July.

Dressmaking - Children's Clothing - (3 sessions) £60 Wed, 24/05/2017 - 18:00 to 21:00

This workshop is aimed at beginners and students who would like to return to sewing.

Dressmaking can seem very daunting to beginners, however making children’s clothing seems more approachable and achievable. Plus you get to share what you have made with your children or grandchildren.  

Each student can bring along an easy child’s dressmaking pattern for a dress, skirt, shorts or trousers to work through during these 3 sessions.

We will be on hand to advise and guide you through any techniques and stages you may need help with, eg inserting a zip, sleeves, hem or neckline.

You will learn how to:

-         Cut out a pattern

-         Identify pattern symbols

-         Transfer pattern markings

-         Finish seams to a professional standard

-         Insert a zip or buttonhole fastening if required

Machine Applique and Freehand Machine Embroidery - £35 Thu, 18/05/2017 - 18:00 to 21:00

We have combined our two most popular workshops into one 3 hour class. This allows you to sample both techniques as well as learn twice as much.

The first half of the workshop will be focusing on machine appliqué.

You will learn how to:

-          Transfer your image onto fabric

-          Choose the right stitch and size for the project

-          Experiment with letters and motifs

You will then move onto Freehand Machine Embroidery after a tea break!!

You will be shown how to set up your machine for this technique by lowering the feed dogs and changing the tension.

You will then practice some common stitches used for this technique and learn when to use them.

Once you are confident you will then create your own picture using calico and a selection of fabric, felt and metallic threads.

All materials, tea, coffee and cake are all included.

 

Saturday Morning Children's Sewing Club - School Bag - £12.50 Sat, 20/05/2017 - 10:00 to 11:30

Come an make this fully lined shoulder bag with strap, pocket and popper fastening in a colourful medium weight fabric. Each child will learn how to sew darts, insert a lining, add a pocket and create handles.

Suitable for children age 7+ with some sewing machine experience.

All materials, a drink and snack are included.
