Saturday Morning Children's Sewing Club - School Bag - £12.50 Sat, 20/05/2017 - 10:00 to 11:30

Come an make this fully lined shoulder bag with strap, pocket and popper fastening in a colourful medium weight fabric. Each child will learn how to sew darts, insert a lining, add a pocket and create handles.

Suitable for children age 7+ with some sewing machine experience.

All materials, a drink and snack are included.

Please phone or email in advanced to book a place for your child as places are limited.  

As usual each activity runs for two consecutive weeks making it a fortnightly club if your child would like to come regularly.

 

Memory Blanket - £35 Thu, 15/06/2017 - 10:00 to 14:00

Turn your babies’ clothes into a beautiful memory blanket. A lovely item to hang on a wall, put at the end of a bed or something special to treasure.

Over this 4 hour workshop you will make a small blanket using  basic patchwork techniques. Some sewing machine experience is advised.

You will need to bring a minimum of 20 items of your child’s clothing. It can be a mixture of stretchy fabric and cottons.

You will also need 1m of cotton backing fabric and 1m of a medium weight wadding. 

Tea, coffee and cake are included. Please bring your lunch or you can order a sandwich or panini from our cafe menu.

Summer Dress - £50 Mon, 05/06/2017 - 17:30 to 21:00

In this 2 part workshop each student will learn how to make a lovely summer dress using New Look pattern 6447. Other patterns can be used; we recommend you choose an easy or simple pattern to get it made in the 2 sessions. Please inform us on booking.

This dress is aimed at students with some experience of dressmaking.

We will be on hand to advise and guide you through the many techniques and stages this pattern has.

You will learn how to:

-         Cut out a pattern

-         Identify pattern symbols

-         Transfer pattern markings

-         Finish seams to a professional standard

-         Insert an invisible zip

-         Insert a lining

 Sessions on 5th and 12th June.

Limited to 3 students per class.

Please bring your own fabric, zip, lining and interfacing. We are happy to advise how much is required before booking.

Beginner's Dressmaking - £60 (3 sessions) Wed, 03/05/2017 - 10:30 to 13:30

This workshop is aimed at beginners and students who would like to return to sewing.

Each student can bring along an easy dressmaking pattern for a skirt, or dress to work through during these 3 sessions.

We will be on hand to advise and guide you through any techniques and stages you may need help with, eg inserting a zip, sleeves, hem or neckline.

Piped Cushion with Zip - £35 Thu, 25/05/2017 - 18:00 to 20:30

Learn two fantastic techniques that will improve your sewing skills and take a simple cushion to the next step. 

Firstly you will cut out your cushion panels for a 40cm x 40cm (16" x 16") cushion cover before moving onto making the matching piping, using piping cord and your cushion fabric. We will show you have to create the piping strip, insert the piping cord and advise on what machine foot to use.

You will then move onto inserting the zip, using the best technique to do this with piping. 

Once the zip is inserted you will sew the remaining cushion cover and finish to a neat standard. 

You will need to provide 3/4m of light to medium upholstery fabric, matching thread and a 14" zip.

Dressmaking - Children's Clothing - (3 sessions) £60 Fri, 05/05/2017 - 10:30 to 13:30

This workshop is aimed at beginners and students who would like to return to sewing.

Dressmaking can seem very daunting to beginners, however making children’s clothing seems more approachable and achievable. Plus you get to share what you have made with your children or grandchildren.  

Each student can bring along an easy child’s dressmaking pattern for a dress, skirt, shorts or trousers to work through during these 3 sessions.

We will be on hand to advise and guide you through any techniques and stages you may need help with, eg inserting a zip, sleeves, hem or neckline.

You will learn how to:

-         Cut out a pattern

-         Identify pattern symbols

-         Transfer pattern markings

-         Finish seams to a professional standard

-         Insert a zip or buttonhole fastening if required

Patchwork Quilt - (3 sessions) - £60 Thu, 15/06/2017 - 18:00 to 21:00

Create your own mini quilt using patchwork techniques.

Week 1 – you will be shown how to;

-           Cut fabric using a rotary cutter, ruler and mat

-          Sew a straight seam

-          Press a seam

-          Match seams

-          Create your design using squares

Week 2 – Once you have finalised your design you will spend this session adding a boarder and quilting on top of your patchwork. 

Week 3 – In this session you will sew your front, back and wadding panels together, before adding a bias binding edge to finish your quilt.

This is a great workshop for beginners or for people who want to improve their skills. The finished quilt is ideal for a new arrival, lap quilt or children’s play mat.

You will need to bring a 5 fat quarters in your chosen colours and patterns to the first session. You will need a backing fabric, wadding and bias binding for sessions 2 and 3. The measurements you will need can be discussed in session 1.

Sessions on Thursday 15th, 22nd and 29th June.

In this 2 part workshop each student will learn how to make their own craft accessories. Suggested projects could be a piped cushion, lined tote bag, sewing room, kitchen, gadget or car accessories or even a dog coat.
