Roman Blind - £60

Learn how to make  a Roman Blind that can instantly change the look and feel of any room in your home.

In this workshop you will make a sample 60cm Roman Blind using all the techniques required to get a professional finish. You will be provided with a basic blind kit and instructions on how to construct your blind before going home with your sample blind to use as a reference.

A 60cm blind kit, tea, coffee and cake. Please bring your lunch or you can buy a sandwich or panini from our cafe menu.

You will need to bring:

1m of furnishing fabric

Beginner's Dressmaking - £60 (3 sessions)

This workshop is aimed at beginners and students who would like to return to sewing.

Each student can bring along an easy dressmaking pattern for a skirt, or dress to work through during these 3 sessions.

We will be on hand to advise and guide you through any techniques and stages you may need help with, eg inserting a zip, sleeves, hem or neckline.

Introduction to the Sewing Machine - £25

A two hour session introducing you to the uses and features of a sewing machine.

You will learn basic skills such as:

-      Threading a machine

-      Inserting a bobbin

-      Winding a bobbin

-      Knowing what tension and stitches to use for different fabrics

You will be shown how to create a neat seam, hem and perfect corners.

You will be shown how to change the machine foot and learn when to use different feet for a variety of techniques.

PJ Trousers or Shorts - £25

This workshop is great for beginners or students wanting to refresh their skills. You will make a lovely pair of pyjama shorts or trousers (loungewear), a great comfy item perfect for all year round.

You will learn how to:

-          Cut out a pattern

-          Choose the right size

-          Make a casing

-          Insert elastic

-          Stitch a hem

There are two lengths to choose from, pyjama shorts or full length trousers in sizes XS, S, M, L.

Zips - Cushion and Wash Bag - £35

Does the thought of inserting a zip fill you with dread then fear not as this workshop will show you two ways on how to do it as well as make two beautiful products for the home.

You will first make a 40x40cm cushion, you will learn how to:

-          Cut out the fabric

-          Prepare seams for zip

-          Insert a zip

-          Finish to a professional standard

We will then move onto making a lovely wash bag showing you another technique of inserting a zip as well as learning how to sew a box corner and insert a lining.

Tote Bags - £30

Are you sick of using plastic shopping bag?, then why not make a bag for life.

In this workshop you will make two tote bags, learning different techniques on both bags.

The first tote is a simple book bag. You will learn how to make bag handles and insert a lining.

The second tote has boxed corners and an outside pocket.

Lining fabric is provided. You will need to bring 3/4m of cotton fabric for each bag.

Tea, coffee and cake are provided.

This workshop is ideal for beginners.

Christmas Stocking - £35

Make that special someone a beautiful Christmas stocking they can treasure year after year.

Using a selection of Christmas fabrics you can choose to;

-         Patchwork a stocking panel – sewing different sized pieces of fabric together before cutting your stocking shape.

Or

-         Decorate your stocking panel with an appliqué design or child’s name.

Once the outer layer has been decorated you will then sew a lining before sandwiching the layers between a thin wadding.

This workshop is suitable for people with some sewing machine experience.
